Balancing brains and brawn, Samsung has announced its latest rugged mobile devices: the Galaxy XCover7 Pro smartphone and the Galaxy Tab Active5 Pro tablet, designed to withstand demanding work environments.

The Galaxy XCover7 Pro is a 6.6-inch device “designed to meet the demands of… high-intensity work environments.” It boasts a MIL-STD-810H certified form factor, allowing it to survive “drops, extreme temperatures, and vibrations.” The smartphone also has a resistance rating of IP68, meaning it can handle brief submersion underwater and blasts of dust. These durability features are carried over from its predecessor, the Galaxy XCover6 Pro.

The XCover7 Pro improves upon the previous generation with several key upgrades. It features a FullHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate, compared to the 60Hz refresh rate of its predecessor. Additionally, it includes Touch Sensitivity to increase input responsiveness even when wearing leather gloves up to 2mm thick. The device also features Vision Booster technology, which enhances “screen readability” by boosting the maximum brightness up to 600 nits, making it easier to view in sunlight.

Samsung has also focused on improving call audio with the XCover7 Pro. The device houses “upgraded stereo speakers” that output clearer calls at higher volumes, along with “anti-feedback noise reduction” to minimize disruptions. The phone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 Mobile Platform, a chipset that balances fast processing speeds with battery efficiency. This hardware enables support for modern AI features such as Google’s Circle to Search, Object Eraser, and Read Aloud.

Other notable features of the Galaxy XCover7 Pro include dual SIM support, allowing users to switch between networks, a dual camera system led by a 50MP wide lens, and 128GB of storage that is expandable up to 2TB.

Alongside the XCover7 Pro, Samsung announced the Galaxy Tab Active5 Pro, a rugged tablet that shares many of the same features and hardware as the smartphone. One key difference is the Active5 Pro’s use of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ for its display, providing extra protection against scratches. The tablet also features No Battery Mode, “allowing it to function when connected to a dedicated power source,” although this comes at the cost of limited CPU performance.

The Galaxy XCover7 Pro is set to launch on May 8, while the Galaxy Tab Active5 Pro is expected to be released in early June. Pricing for both devices has not been announced.
